On the eve of the anniversary of Madeleine McCann's disappearance from Portugal on 3 May 2007, Edward McMillan-Scott MEP (Conservative, Yorkshire & Humber, EPP-ED), Vice-President of the European Parliament, will host a press briefing with other sponsors of the successful Written Declaration, put forward by Kate and Gerry McCann during visits to the European Parliament organised by the MEP, calling for a European Missing Child hotline and other initiatives.
The Press conference will cover:
- The European Commission's response to the Written Declaration on emergency cooperation in the recovery of missing children
- An EU initiative to fund the setting-up of a Missing Child Alert
- A Children's Rights Manifesto drawn up by Children's NGOs for the next European Parliament
- The demand for the setting-up of an Office of Child Rights in Brussels
