My dear Maeliss, my dear unknown little girl,

My dear Maeliss, my dear unknown little girl,
On the second of June, you will be fourteen. It will then be six years since the day I did not take you in my arms.
No news from you, as from the day of your abduction, but when I think about the first eight years of your life, that we spent together, one feeling only comes to my heart : happiness.
At the bottom of my heart, there is still, today, a little eight years old girl, who keeps on offering me lovely memories.
The young maid you are now is unknown to me. That is not because I did not want to see you grow up, or because I wanted to drop you aside, or because I wanted to forget about you, but because European Injustice and human selfishness created and allowed such a impossible situation.
Perhaps one day you will think about meeting me. Perhaps will you be afraid of such a reunion.
I am as afraid of such a meeting as you are, but I love you. And even if Life has made of us two very different, and wounded persons, I will never forget all the happiness you gave me, as my little daughter.
Whatever happens in the future, you must know that I love you, and will always love you. I will always have fond memories of the little girl you were, and would be delighted to meet the young lady are becoming.
For the time being, I do not have the right to kiss you, to hold you in my arms, to take you along to share wonderful moments, like in the past. I do not have the right to organize your birthday either.
So, like every year, I can only leave a few words that you will perhaps, somehow, read :
Happy birthday, my big pretty girl!
From your mother – your real mother.
Sabine.
